Uganda Africa

15 Jun

day 5
we had a busy day of training at Vision for Africa. training from 9-1 and then lunch: matooke, beef tips, cassava, and orange fanta (the strange sounding items are local foods that are actually very good) some swimming in the afternoon and then a ride home. we learned so many facts about how diseases are spread and how curable they are. we could wipe malaria out of africa…or i should say, africa can prevent malaria from being a further issue. it is amazing how little it would take!

day 4
lots of rest! then sorting through donations! Andy Bartels learns to drive…Uganda style (we will try to post a video of just how big a deal this actually is) there is only one traffic rule “Might is Right” meaning the biggest vehicle (mighty) on the road has the right of way…tomorrow the real work begins…training for everything we will need when visiting villages.

Uganda Africa

11 Jun

day 1
starts with a limo bus ride to the airport…that was awesome! we also used the new international wing at the airport…again, awesome! a sick pilot and the backup pilot needing a number of hours after his last drink (good catch british air) and delaying our flight by 6 hours until 3:45 AM…not so awesome. the good news…we had a 12 hour layover in london that was shrunk to about 3 hours and not missing our next flight…awesome! i guess having more awesome than not awesome is a good thing!

Mr. Squeakers

11 Jun

One of our other cats, squeakers…beeps for short, has been acting different since Sylvester passed away. He sits in some of the places where Sylvester used to sit and looks slightly worried. Squeakers and Sylvester were buddies, picking on each other and running around the house together. I think squeakers knows whats going on but is in denial…I will really miss besser…so will squeakers.

Sylvester

09 Jun

Rest in Peace Besser-Pooh…we lost one of our poohs today. Sylvester was a cat that Andrea raised from about a day or two old until today. She has been upset lately because he has been sick. He is resting nicely now up in kitty heaven
